100 children from Ruse to become seekers of knowledge

Regional library “Lyuben Karavelov” hosted the first meeting of the partners under project “Seekers of knowledge”. The project is implemented under the “Knowledge and Growth” Programme with the financial support of Ruse Free Spirit City Municipal Foundation and Econt Foundation. During the meeting representatives of Regional library “Lyuben Karavelov”, Association “Cultural spaces” and Bulgarian Red Cross – Ruse selected management and expert team to work under the project. They discussed an action plan and a programme for the implementation of the activities set in the project proposal. The objectives and tasks, responsibilities and deadlines for implementation were identified.


The “Seekers of knowledge” project aims to create an environment for improving the functional literacy among adolescents; to develop their skills for searching, discovering and processing information through a variety of tools – both traditional ones such as books and new technologies. A series of extracurricular trainings and workshops are envisaged. During the workshops 100 children and young people, aged 7 to 15, will acquire knowledge of family history and natural sciences, they will increase their health and financial culture.


The selection of participants under Activity 2 – Club “From the root to the highest leaf” has also started. The idea of the club is for the participants to develop skills for solving tasks in the field in the field of genealogy (family history) and to apply in practice the acquired knowledge through modern technologies. Meetings will be held once a month, within 8 months, with the first meeting scheduled for October 28, 2017. The topics to be discussed by the participants include: family celebrations and traditions, family name tree, birthplace map, tree of professions in the family, birthplace study and making a digital family archive. The children and young people involved in the project will make family albums and will present them to their peers. At the end of the project two of the albums will be published on the website of the library.
