Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (7 June 1848 – 8 May 1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist who was not well appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of color and synthetist style that were distinguishably different from Impressionism. His work was influential to the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gauguin’s art became popular after his death; partially from the efforts of art dealer Ambroise Vollard who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career, as well as assisting in organizing two important posthumous exhibitions in Paris. Many of his paintings were in the possession of Russian collector Sergei Shchukin as well as other important collections.

Danube melodies and water pictures at the Danube bank

Yesterday at pontoon №8 of the quay in Ruse took place the first of its kind in the country floating concert on the Danube River called “From Vienna to Ruschuk – a river away”. The event was attended by Deputy Mayor for European Development Strahil Karapchanski, MPs Plamen Nunev and Svetlana Angelova and the Executive Director of Ruse Free Spirit City Municipal Foundation Elena Minkova.

The unique event was dedicated to the International Danube Day – June 29. The concert presented the musical heritage of different nations through classical and folklore music, played by State Philharmonic Orchestra – Ruse and the Municipal Wind Orchestra of Veliko Tarnovo with conductor Vladimir Boshnakov. Rhythms and melodies typical for each Danube country were presented in classical and folklore versions, with the musicians playing on one of the most beautiful cruise ships “Vivaldi”, as the audience watched from the shore. During the attractive concert, the audience also enjoyed visual effects – a water wall with 3D mapping of dancing figures with musical accompaniment, laser and light effects over the river.

The project “From Vienna to Ruschuk – a river away” is implemented at the initiative of State Opera – Ruse and Ruse Free Spirit City Foundation, with the support of Ruse Municipality and the companies Danube Tours, Danube Dredging Fleet and Bulstrad Vienna Insurance Group.
