Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (7 June 1848 – 8 May 1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist who was not well appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of color and synthetist style that were distinguishably different from Impressionism. His work was influential to the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gauguin’s art became popular after his death; partially from the efforts of art dealer Ambroise Vollard who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career, as well as assisting in organizing two important posthumous exhibitions in Paris. Many of his paintings were in the possession of Russian collector Sergei Shchukin as well as other important collections.

Equestrian Club “Kentavar – Ruse” hosted Derby Cross tournament

On November 19, 2016 Equestrian club “Kenatavar – Ruse” organised the last Derby cross tournament for Season 2016 on the racecourse in Ruse. The tournament was final part of project “Horses – a better way of life” implemented under Programme “Ruse – European City of Sport 2016”, with the financial support of Ruse Free Spirit City Municipal Foundation.

15 young equestrians from the clubs “Kentavar – Ruse”, “Ruse Horse” and “Kaloyan 92” took part in the competition.

Participants in the tournament included State Champions from all classes of the Eventing discipline, as well as two equestrians who took part in the European Championship in Eventing – Nikoleta Pavlova and Irina Nikolova from the leading Bulgarian equestrian club - “Kaloyan 92” – Arbanasi.

They participated in two disciplines: derby cross 80–90 cm for equestrians up to 14-year-old and derby cross 100–110 cm.

In addition to exceptional equestrian skills, the event also demonstrated how horse-riding and interaction with horses provide an excellent way for families to spend quality time together. There were many entertaining games for the audience and prizes were awarded.

The aims of the “Horses – a better way of life” were to promote Ruse as a destination for elite equestrian sport for all ages, to promote equestrian sport and communication with horses, to present innovative ways for active and healthy lifestyle to the citizens of Ruse, to enhance the level of equine practitioners through master classes.
