Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (7 June 1848 – 8 May 1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist who was not well appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of color and synthetist style that were distinguishably different from Impressionism. His work was influential to the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gauguin’s art became popular after his death; partially from the efforts of art dealer Ambroise Vollard who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career, as well as assisting in organizing two important posthumous exhibitions in Paris. Many of his paintings were in the possession of Russian collector Sergei Shchukin as well as other important collections.

Second place for St. George’s Choir at an International Festival in Belgium

The city of Neerpelt, Belgium was host of the 62^nd edition of the European Music Festival for Young People from 1-5 May. 101 international choirs participated in the event.

Ruse Youth House St. George’s Choir was the only Bulgarian representative in the festival. The choir won the prestigious second place in the “Mixed choirs” category and both the audience and the jury were impressed by the performance of the young singers. The awards were given at a spectacular ceremony broadcasted live on Belgian television.

More than 5000 people applauded the participants representing their cities and countries. St. George’s Choir was greeted by the Bulgarian Ambassador in Brussels His Excellency Veselin Valkanov and by the General Secretary of the European Choir Federation Jean-Pierre van Avermaat. Mr Valkanov congratulated the singers on their performance and wished them many future successes.

The participation of St. George’s Choir in the prestigious international festival was financed by Ruse Free Spirit Municipal Foundation.
