Sofia Encheva, student at Secondary School with the Study of European Languages “St. Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher” – Ruse, had the unique opportunity to participate in “Discovery” shuttle landing simulation during space training in Turkey.

The girl was in Izmir from 9th to the 16th of August 2015, where she participated in Space Camp Turkey 2015. Sofia’s participation in the space training was supported by Ruse Free Spirit City Foundation and BH-Social project of Econt.

She spent 6 days at the NASA camp, together with 191 peers from Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan, Bulgaria and Turkey. The participants had the opportunity to learn more about life in space, future space stations on Mars, as well as the space race between the US and Russia. The culmination of the training was the demanding task to land a “Discovery” shuttle simulator, which was assigned to a team of 14 children, including the girl from Ruse.

Sofia Encheva is one of “The Faces of Ruse” of Ruse Free Spirit City Municipal Foundation. She has numerous awards from Olympiads in Bulgarian language and literature, History and civilization and English language. She writes poetry and short stories, some of which were published in the school newspaper. The participation in the space training provided her with the opportunity to learn more about the Universe and to improve her language skills.
