Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (7 June 1848 – 8 May 1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist who was not well appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of color and synthetist style that were distinguishably different from Impressionism. His work was influential to the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gauguin’s art became popular after his death; partially from the efforts of art dealer Ambroise Vollard who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career, as well as assisting in organizing two important posthumous exhibitions in Paris. Many of his paintings were in the possession of Russian collector Sergei Shchukin as well as other important collections.

St. George Choir – Ruse is the only Bulgarian representative at International Music Festival in Belgium

Mayor Plamen Stoilov met with performers from the Municipal Youth House St. George’s Choir. The young singers told the mayor about their upcoming tour and their participation in the 2014 European Music Festival for Young People – Choir Festival in Belgium.

On April 22, St. George’s Choir goes on tour in Germany and the Netherlands. The talented Ruse singers will perform at 6 concerts. The repertoire of the choir with conductor Mina Vlaykova includes Eastern Orthodox chants, Western European masterpieces, contemporary Bulgarian musical works, as well as cultivated folk music. At the concerts, the choir will be accompanied by the pianist Bozhena Petrova.

The children from St.George’s Choir will be the only Bulgarian participants in the Music Festival for Young People – Choir Festival in Belgium. More than 100 choirs will take part in the event.

Mayor Plamen Stoilov gave the choir flag with the emblem of Ruse Municipality, wishing them to continue to promote Ruse’s image as cultural capital of Bulgaria.
