Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (7 June 1848 – 8 May 1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist who was not well appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of color and synthetist style that were distinguishably different from Impressionism. His work was influential to the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gauguin’s art became popular after his death; partially from the efforts of art dealer Ambroise Vollard who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career, as well as assisting in organizing two important posthumous exhibitions in Paris. Many of his paintings were in the possession of Russian collector Sergei Shchukin as well as other important collections.

St. George’s Choir

The 62^nd edition of the European Music Festival for Young People was held from May 1 until May 5 2014 in Neerpelt, Belgium. 101 international choirs took part in it. Among them was the only representative of Bulgaria – Ruse Municipal Youth House St. George’s Children’s and Youth Choir with conductor Mina Vlaykova.

In the “Mixed choirs” category, the Ruse representatives took the prestigious second place, and both the audience and the jury were impressed by their performance. The prizes were awarded at a grand show, broadcasted live on Belgian television. The Ruse St. George’s Choir was greeted by the Bulgarian ambassador in Brussels His Excellency Veselin Valkanov and by the secretary of the European Federation for Choirs of the Union Jean-Pierre van Avermaet.
