Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin (7 June 1848 – 8 May 1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist who was not well appreciated until after his death. Gauguin was later recognized for his experimental use of color and synthetist style that were distinguishably different from Impressionism. His work was influential to the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Gauguin’s art became popular after his death; partially from the efforts of art dealer Ambroise Vollard who organized exhibitions of his work late in his career, as well as assisting in organizing two important posthumous exhibitions in Paris. Many of his paintings were in the possession of Russian collector Sergei Shchukin as well as other important collections.

Students from Ruse to participate in Space Camp Turkey 2014

Mayor Plamen Stoilov and Deputy Mayor for European Development Strahil Karapchanski met today with the students from Secondary School with the Study of European Languages "St. Constantine Cyril the Philosopher" – Ruse who will participate in the International Space Training Programme “Space Camp Turkey 2014”, which will take place in the city of Izmir from 20 to 27 July. The students’ trip to the science-educational centre in astronomy and their participation in the programme is financed by Ruse Free Spirit City Municipal Foundation.

Alexandra Pencheva, Kameliya Angelova and Angel Mesarabov visited the Mayor together with their instructor – English teacher Teodora Stankova and the director of the school Dobromira Nikolova.

The students applied for the programme with an essay on biology, physics, astronomy and technologies. They are fluent in English and will be able to freely communicate with the other participants in the international training.

Mayor Plamen Stoilov said he was delighted that students from Ruse will participate in such an important international forum. “With your ambition and your desire to win, you embody the free spirit of Ruse”, said Mr Stoilov.

The director of the Secondary School with the Study of European Languages "St. Constantine Cyril the Philosopher" Mrs Dobromira Nikolova thanked for the support of Ruse Municipality and pointed out that the participation in such international forums gives the students a broader view on the world.

During the space camp the students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge in astronomy, to team up with young people from all over the world, to work with the latest space technologies and simulators.
