The team of Ruse University was the most successful of all Bulgarian teams that participated at Shell Eco-marathon Europe 2014 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The "rocket"and its pilots 21-year-old Susan Mehmedova and 23-year-old Victor Stoyanov, covered 168 km with only 1 kWh. The team took 23rd place in the general classification. 49 teams from all over Europe participated in the race, 20 dropped out of it during the technical inspection.
For their participation in the race, the team of Ruse University, consisting of 15 members, teachers and students, created unique electromobile, called “rocket” for it attractive looks. The creation of the car and the participation of the Ruse University team in Shell Eco-marathon Europe 2014 were financed by Angel Kanchev University of Ruse and Ruse Free Spirit City Municipal Foundation.
Shell Eco-marathon is one of the most innovative student competitions, which takes place every year in Europe, America and Asia. The aim of the initiative is to encourage high school and university students from across the world to design and join races with energy effective automobiles. The events provide an opportunity for exchange of experience among the participants and stimulates them to find solutions for sustainable mobility in response to the global energy challenge. The team which covers the longest distance with 1 kWh is the winner.
